On February 16, representatives of the UN Refugee Agency met with the leadership of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Donetsk Oblast, handed over certificates and passed over 23 sets of tools and equipment for rescuers who will carry out restoration work in settlements on the demarcation line, worth almost three million UAH.

The event is one of the stages of preparation for the EADRCC Consequence Management Command Post and Field Exercises “NORTH MACEDONIA 2021”, which is scheduled for 20 – 24 September 2021 in Ohrid, Northern Macedonia. The overall objective of the exercise will be to enhance synergies and strengthen the national capacity of NATO member and partner countries to respond to emergencies.

Rescuers are stepping up preventive work in religious buildings, communicating with the abbots of churches and temples, as well as the faithful people to prevent as many dangerous events inherent in the winter. As part of a joint project of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and the Representative Office of The HALO Trust in Ukraine "Humanitarian pyrotechnic activities in eastern Ukraine" in the period from November 9 to December 16 this year, pyrotechnic units of the SES were involved in demining potentially dangerous fields with a total area of 12.8 hectares in the area of the village. Pyrotechnic units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine carry out daily work on survey of the country's territory, detection, seizure and disposure of explosives from the times of past wars. In the past 24 hours alone, on December 14, 19 on-site visits were made, during which 75 munitions were identified.

In September 2020, with the support of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and UN Women in Ukraine, in SESU system there was initiated a gender assessment, the purpose of which is to improve the implementation of the gender aspect in the SES by assessing and providing recommendations for changes or new approaches and equal participation of men and women in the activities of the service and to meet the security needs of men and women in the field of civil protection.
